Holy Week Sermon Series

Holy Week Sermon Series

During Holy Week at Lord & Savior Ev. Lutheran Church, the congregation will hold services on both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday (both at 7:00pm). Continuing the “three word” theme that the congregation has used throughout Lent, on Maundy Thursday (April 18th), Pastor Carlovsky’s message will highlight two three-word phrases from the Lord’s Supper: "TAKE AND EAT!"  "TAKE AND DRINK!” (Matthew 26:26-28).

Good Friday will focus on what are perhaps the most famous and familiar three words that Jesus spoke: “It is finished!” (John 19:28-30).

Luke 24:6-7 - Alive, on the Road to Emmaus

The congregation will hold two services on Easter Sunday, April 21st. The Easter Sunrise service (at 6:30am) will finish up the "three words” theme, with the triumphant message of the angel in Luke 24:6-7: “He has risen!” The congregation will hold an Easter Breakfast after the Sunrise service. The 9:00am Easter Festival service will take us to the afternoon of the first Easter, with Jesus on the road to Emmaus.

The theme will be “Alive, on the Road to Emmaus!”

John 20:19-31 - Easter’s Surprise: Peace

The following Sunday, April 28th, Pastor Carlovsky will preach on the classic Gospel lesson in John 20:19-31, where the Bible tells that on the evening of the first Easter, the disciples were locked away for "fear of the Jews."  But the disciples may have also been afraid of something else — something even worse. How could Jesus be the "resurrection and the life" if He were dead? But then Jesus appeared to them!  And He spoke most comforting, most surprising, gracious words to them:  "Shalom alekem."  "Peace be with you."   Fear gave way to joy! Pastor Carlovsky’s message will focus on "peace."  Jesus could have been angry about their doubting and denying and running away and more...  Rather He surprised them and said, "Peace…”

The sermon theme will be: EASTER'S SURPRISE:  "PEACE!"
