1 Corinthians 1:18-25 - What’s the Cross to You?
At Lord & Savior Ev. Lutheran Church this coming Sunday, March 31st, Pastor David Carlovsky will preach on the Epistle lesson for that Sunday: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25. The apostle Paul, himself a Jewish Christian, writes that "Christ crucified" is "a stumbling block” — in the Greek, a “skandalon” — a scandal — to Jews.” The sermon will highlight how so much of our 2019 world views the cross as nonsensical and foolishness.
Pastor Carlovsky will use this question as the theme: "WHAT'S THE CROSS TO YOU?”
I. A stumbling block?
Matthew 26:20-25 - Is It I?
The congregation’s fifth midweek Lenten service, on April 3rd, will be led by Pastor Thomas Schultz, pastor at Christ the King, Palatine, IL. His “three words of truth” that Wednesday evening will be "IS IT I?” (Matthew 26:20-25)
Luke 20:9-19 - The Lord’s Urgent Appeal
The following Sunday, April 7th, Pastor Carlovsky will preach on the Gospel lesson for that Sunday, Luke 20:9-19. This is commonly called the Parable of the Tenants. It teaches that in spite of God's patience in dealing with His people, they remain rebellious. The tenants of the vineyard in this parable treat those sent by the owner of the vineyard in a most shameful way. To those who have already shown themselves to be so cruel... the father sends his son. We see God's Son pictured in the heir who was killed. This parable--this urgent appeal--so angered Jesus' enemies that they "looked for a way to arrest him immediately.”
The sermon theme will be: "THE LORD'S URGENT APPEAL”
I. Not to despise His Word
II. Not to reject His love
John 13:31-35 - Love One Another
The congregation’s sixth and final Lenten service will be held on Wednesday, April 10th. The theme continues to be "Three Words of Truth." The Sisters in Christ are serving the Lenten supper. Pastor Robert Meiselwitz, from St. Paul, Round Lake Park, will preach on a theme of "LOVE ONE ANOTHER” (John 13:31-35).
