Psalm 42-43 - Looking Up When Feeling Down
On Sunday, March 17th, at Lord and Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, Pastor David Carlovsky will preach on the appointed psalm(s) for that Sunday, Psalm 42-43. Many consider these originally one psalm... or, at very least, psalms intended for use together. They contain the repeated refrain, "Why are you downcast, O my soul?" These psalms remind us of what to do--and where to turn--in times of trouble... and when we're feeling down. We look to our God! He picks us up! He raises our spirits... through His Spirit... working through Word and Sacrament. He rushes to our aid! Our God gets us through every trouble! The sermon will have this simple theme: "LOOKING UP WHEN FEELING DOWN!”
John 18:33-40 - What is Truth?
The third Wednesday-evening Lenten service, on March 20th, will be led by Pastor Kevin Raddatz of St. John, Libertyville. The "three words" that Wednesday will be: "WHAT IS TRUTH?" (John 18:33-40)
The following Sunday, March 24th, Pastor Carlovsky will preach on the Old Testament lesson for that Sunday, Exodus 3:1-8b,10-15. This is the story of Moses, who had been shepherding sheep for 40 years when he saw something he had never seen before — a burning bush that didn’t burn up. Before the day was done, that shepherd knew he had come face-to-face with so much more than a bush that burns! The sermon theme will be: "MORE THAN A BUSH THAT BURNS!”
I. His glory burns around us!
II. He makes our hearts burn within us!
John 19:14-18 - Take Him Away
The fourth Wednesday-evening Lenten service, on March 27th, will continue this year’s theme of "Three Words of Truth." Pastor Bill Schubert, the new pastor at Heritage, Lindenhurst, IL, will be preaching on "TAKE HIM AWAY!” (John 19:14-18)
