Luke 5:1-11 - “Knownin’ Where You’re Goin’”
This coming Sunday at Lord and Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, February 10th, Pastor David Carlovsky’s sermon text will be the Gospel lesson (Luke 5:1-11). Most people focus on the miraculous catch of fish in this story — but the sermon will address what happened next: Peter, James, and John just left their nets and boat to follow Jesus. Why would they do that? ...when they didn't know where they were going! The sermon will look at where these three disciples were “going,” with this title and outline: "KNOWIN' WHERE YOU'RE GOIN'!"
I. Going to listen!
II. Going to fish!
III. Going to go with Jesus!
Jeremiah 17:5-8 - “God Uses Contrast to Encourage Us!”
The following Sunday, February 17th, Pastor Carlovsky will preach on the Old Testament lesson (Jeremiah 17:5-8) for that week. That reading contrasts the blessings of trusting in the true God with the woes in store for those who trust in human might and wisdom. (It also echoes the thoughts of Psalm 1 with the idea of a "tree planted by the water.") There is a contrast between trusting in God and attempting to go it alone. The contrast here will be in where we're planted and the impact on spiritual growth if our roots are elsewhere (other than in God and His Word). The sermon theme will be "GOD USES CONTRAST TO ENCOURAGE US!"
