Matthew 2:1-12 - And Fell Down and Worshiped Him!
This coming Sunday, January 6th, is Epiphany — the twelfth day of Christmas, when the church remembers the visit of the Magi, or Wise Men, from the East to see the infant Jesus. The King James version Bibles that many people grew up with say that these powerful, wealthy and learned men "fell down and worshiped him" (Matthew 2:11b). Pastor David Carlovsky’s sermon will be based on Matthew 2:1-12, and have the same theme:
"AND FELL DOWN AND WORSHIPED HIM!” He will note how that worship (1) overcame obstacles; and (2) gave generously.
1 Samuel 16:1-13 - God Anoints his Chosen One!
The following Sunday, January 13th, is when the church often recognizes the “Baptism of our Lord.” The Gospel lesson is that story, as found in Luke 3:15-17,21,22. Pastor Carlovsky’s sermon will be based on the Old Testament lesson, the story of the shepherd boy, David, being anointed by Samuel as the next king. We will be reminded how baptism is something like that anointing... being chosen or set apart by our heavenly Father. And we'll be reminded that at Jesus' baptism He was "anointed" as the Messiah to be our Savior. His sermon theme will use the text found in 1 Samuel 16:1-13, and will be titled "GOD ANOINTS HIS CHOSEN ONE!”
