Born to an accountant who worked for the Ford Motor Company, my earthly journey started on March 17, 1954 in Chicago Heights, IL. I became a child of God through Holy Baptism at Zion, Crete, IL. God blessed me through life as I learned about my Savior from Christian parents, pastors, teachers, and professors. I was also blessed to have attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Plymouth, MI for most of my grade school years. God’s Spirit moved me to want to become a pastor, so I boarded at our Synod’s prep school, Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw, MI, for high school. The adventure continued with four years of pre-seminary studies at Northwestern College (Watertown, WI), and three years of preparation for the ministry at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (Mequon, WI). A year of internship was spent serving as a vicar at St. Paul’s, Fort Atkinson, WI.
Full-time service to the Lord began in 1980 with two years as religion instructor and coach at my alma mater, Michigan Lutheran Seminary. This was followed by five years of serving as pastor at a mission congregation, Shepherd of the Springs, Coral Springs, FL. The privilege of shepherding God’s people here in Crystal Lake began in March of 1987. I continue to be excited to work together with God’s people in service to our Lord and Savior.
God has blessed me with a wonderful family. Their love and support have been a blessing to my ministry. Deb (nee Voss) and I were married in 1978. God blessed us with four wonderful sons, James, Benjamin, Joel, and Aaron (deceased); two fantastic daughters-in-law, Kate and Betsy; and six terrific grandsons, Caleb, Isaiah, Joshua, Nathaniel, Luke, and Landon.
